Richard Sykes

Ford F100 Lightning Truck

Richard's big red fast thang was dialing in mid 12s. But he's pulling it apart, Richard takes up the story: "I'm aiming to build a true 10-second daily-driven street car. The idea is to drive to a strip (including Santa Pod and Shakespeare County), so it could be a 380 mile round trip, throw some slicks on and run 10s. Even on street tyres it should run mid 11s."

Richard is keeping all the creature comforts, power windows, power steering, a/c etc., the truck has had an interior revamp with a cage and window net to make it legal for 10s, a True-trac diff is going into the back axle, and there is already a 2400 stall convertor in there.

"Last year we put a 'built' gearbox in, good for 800hp along with Manley rods/pistons, all fully balanced. This year we have added a monster Kenne Bell blower, 2.8 instead of the stock 1.4 Eaton and added 4-valve Ford Racing CNC'd heads in place of the standard 2-valve heads." The latter are works of art, "It's been a lot of work and money, and I've missed the whole 2008 season, but hopefully I will now have a good, reliable and fast truck. So all I have to do now is work on my consistency for bracket racing in ASS!" Good luck with that Richard, we look forward to seeing that truck again.
